About the Artist
Ambrosius Bosschaert the Elder (1573–1621) was a pioneering Dutch still-life painter, celebrated for his meticulously detailed floral compositions. As one of the earliest artists to specialise in flower painting, he brought an almost scientific precision to his arrangements, capturing each bloom with lifelike clarity. His work, often painted on copper, reflects the Dutch Golden Age’s fascination with nature, luxury, and symbolism. Bosschaert was also a skilled art dealer and the founder of a family dynasty of painters, with his sons continuing his artistic legacy. His vibrant, carefully composed bouquets remain some of the most exquisite still lifes in art history.
