At the beginning of June, the legendary LNER A3 Flying Scotsman will join the COBI building bricks collection! This is a true icon of British railways. Built in 1923, it was the first locomotive to officially reach a speed of 100 miles per hour.

For decades, it symbolised luxurious travel and engineering excellence. After years of operation and restoration, the Flying Scotsman continues to captivate railway enthusiasts, appearing at shows and special events, reminding us of the golden ag e of steam engines!

This 1:35 scaled model consisting of 2,700 pieces, has features galore including functional track & wheels; moveable components, track and two figures. Flying Scotsman was built in Doncaster in February 1923, as an A1 class locomotive and converted to an A3 class in 1947. It was the first locomotive of the newly formed LNER (London and North Eastern Railway).

Designed by Sir Nigel Gresley and numbered 1472, the locomotive was not named ‘Flying Scotsman’ until the following year when it was picked to attend the British Empire Exhibition in London and renumbered 4472. The locomotive went on to operate in service until 1963 and later in preservation, which included tours of the USA, Canada and Australia. Officially the first steam locomotive to reach 100mph in 1934. Today the locomotive is part of the Science Museum Group collection and is owned by the National Railway Museum in York. It weighs 97 tonnes and is 70ft long.
